In addition to basically searching the web for keywords, you can use google for many other things such as monitoring and advaced searching. Today, I would like to tell you about google’s “Site” operator.
The function “site” let’s you see all the pages cached by google for a given domain name (website). To use this tool, simply type in the search box something like:
Site:http://flitools.com
And google will return all the pages he knows about flitools.com
If you would like to see pages from a subdomain or a folder of a website, you can use the same function. Here are some examples:
Site: forums.cnet.com
to view pages from the subdomain « forums »
Site:cnet.com/smartphones/
to views pages from the “smartphone” folder
…
As you can see, you can either use http or omit it.
This tool is very usefull and I generally use it when a website’s navigation isn’t working well or if I find a site very interesting and want to see all its content.
If you are a webmaster or have a blog, you can use this tools to spy on competitors, find pages of your blog that are not properly indexed by google…
