Hello, if you own an ipod and your like me, then you have at least a few duplicate files. And if your like me and you get tired of seeing 5 repeats of the same “American Baby” by Dave Matthews. Once I got fed up with all these duplicates I got determined to find a way to get rid of all my duplicate files. (Without slowing scrolling through 1000+ songs and videos.) So I looked it up and figured out that ITunes has a extremely useful feature to help deal with this problem.
To get rid of all your pesky duplicate files in one extremely quick step just click “View” on the upper toolbar, then click “Show Duplicates”. (This should be towards the bottom of the list depending on what version of ITunes you have.) Anyway, after this it will show you all your files that have the same name. To get rid of duplicates simply click all the songs that have duplicates, while holding the “control” button on your keyboard. Then hit delete!
I hope you enjoyed this extremely helpful tutorial!
P.S. When ITunes shows duplicate files it shows all the files that have the same name. So make sure you don’t delete different versions of the song you wish to keep! Good Luck!

1so are you saying that if I ‘show duplicates’ and then select all > delete (move to trash) then it will get rid of any duplicate songs, but keep one copy of each in my itunes library?

3No, as the article says, “it will show you all your files that have the same name.” If you delete all the duplicates, you will have NO copy of the song left.
